Forge

Forge takes inspiration from the natural landscape of canyons. A product of a million years formed through the process of erosion and flash floods coursing through rocks, slot canyons conceives its own narrative and form. These crevices, varying in width and height, capture light differently over the day. This sense of ephemeral light thus became the driving force of Forge. The project considers how light behaves in natural space and juxtaposing it with artificiality, both in light and material. While in-ground light is installed for nighttime presentation, viewing experience in the day relies upon the transient light that flows into the crevices of the box. Visitors forge his/her own path and experience the transitory and natural experience, all while being faced with an artificial containment.

A constructed flawless glass box is faced with the natural weathered sedimentary rock.
An organic space is spewing out of the defined geometric space.

What is the defining element?
Is the rock contained in the glass, or is the glass containing the rock?
